Remember you’re not alone. Wasps, snakes, insects, and bears could become an issue during your camping, depending on where you are. Be on the lookout for these creatures and keep your food in airtight containers to prevent attracting them.
Stay hydrated. If you’re sweating and hiking, you’ll need to be extra cautious of your water intake. Be sure to regularly sip on water to prevent getting dehydrated.
Beware of dizzying heights. Whenever you’re hiking or climbing in an area that’s higher altitude than what you’re used to, the higher elevation can have unexpected effects. Planning a low-key or two in a high-altitude area before taking part in something challenging can help your body handle the change.
Keep campfires safe. If you have a campfire, ensure that all logs are cut down to the correct size, keep children and pets away from the flames, and ensure the fire is set up well away from tents, trees, and buildings.
Get the right gear. When you’re planning on hiking, be sure that you are well equipped to do so. Get the right pair of hiking boots with thick soles and sturdy ankle support. Waterproofing can be helpful, too, especially if you’re hiking near lakes and waterfalls.
