Safety Tips for Traveling on Vacation

Getting away for the summer? Use these safety tips!

Vacations are a time to get away from the stresses of everyday life. If you prepare carefully before you go, your vacation can be a carefree and fun-filled time. If you don’t think about the basic safety practices, you may soon find out that one incident can quickly ruin a vacation. Here are some essential safety tips you should know when traveling on vacation. Before you leave:
  • Tell a trusted neighbor your travel plans and ask them to help keep an eye on your property.
  • Lock all windows and doors. Don’t forget about the doors leading to the garage or second-story windows.
  • Put a hold on your mail and newspaper deliveries. A clear sign that nobody is home is a stack of mail and newspapers, which provides burglars with incentive.
  • Put yard tools away, including ladders, rakes, and even patio furniture that can be used as tools to gain entry to your property.
At the airport:
  • Keep an eye on your belongings at all times. Never leave them unattended.
  • On the airplane, avoid putting luggage under the seat in front of you. Instead, put it in the overhead bin across the aisle from you. You will be able to keep an eye on your bad during the flight.
While on vacation:
  • Keep your holiday off social media. If criminals see that you are enjoying a vacation, they will know that your property is unoccupied.
  • Keep cash and credit cards in separate places. Never carry your credit cards, cash, and passport at the same time.
  • Make a copy of your passport and leave one at home with a trusted friend or family member.
You can never be too careful when it comes to traveling. Make sure that your plans go off without a hitch by keeping these basic essential tips in mind!
