Spring Driving Tips to Help Keep You Safe

Spring driving safety tips.

After a long winter, spring is finally here! Springtime brings rain and aftereffects of winter weather – potholes and uneven pavements. As we enter a new season, be aware that you should keep an eye out for certain safety measures. To stay safe while driving on spring roads, read on. Be careful in wet driving conditions. April showers bring May flowers, but they also make roads dangerously slippery. Slow down when it begins to rain and make sure to follow at a safe following distance. During the first few hours of the rainstorm, oil and other fluids will pool on the surface of the road, making for a slippery ride. Beware of potholes. Deep potholes can through your vehicle out of alignment or cause more serious – and expensive – damage. Keep an eye out for potholes and drive around them, if possible. Avoid driving through standing water on the road as it may be hiding a deep and destructive pothole. Share the road. The warmer weather will bring out more drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Always be aware of others around you and drive courteously. Avoid speeding, look and signal before making maneuvers, and stop completely at stop signs. Top up your tires. Full tires can reduce the damage caused by road hazards and reduce your chance of an accident. If your tires are looking worn after the winter months, springtime is a good time to replace them. Review auto coverage. When was the last time you checked your insurance? Read over your policy so that you fully understand your limits and coverage and adjust as necessary.
