Drive Through It
Your first instinct may be to slam on the brakes, but don’t. Look straight ahead and keep the steering wheel pointed in the same direction, no matter how hard it tries to pull towards one side. The worst thing you can do is brake harshly and turn the steering wheel sharply.
Hit the Gas
It sounds counterproductive, but the best thing to do is to accelerate when you’ve blown a tire. This is because the tire will add a lot of resistance, and the car will decelerate so rapidly that it can feel like you’ve already slammed on the brakes. Don’t floor it, but try to softly accelerate to counter deceleration.
Move Over
Gently steer yourself to the side of the road and brake gently. Do not stop in traffic. Once you’ve come to a complete stop, put on your hazard lights, pull up the parking brake, and stay a safe distance from your vehicle while waiting for help to arrive.
